Cheap clicks. Real numbers.
ChatGPT now shows ads under its answers, and any business in India can run them. I put about ₹10,000 into 3 campaigns: one for my course and two for my software. Here is what came back.
↑ My OpenAI Ads Manager. MagicSlides: 93,377 impressions → 8,248 clicks → 297 sign-ups.
0.7xmy ROAS so far
Honest part: clicks and sign-ups are great, but I’m not profitable yet. For every ₹100 spent, about ₹70 has come back. The win is the traffic: ₹7,000 can bring ~7,000 people to your site. Turning them into buyers is the part I’m still working on.
Who sees these ads: people on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans in India, 18+. Paying Plus and Pro users don’t. So you reach everyday users, not AI power users. Pitch in plain words.
Account to first ad.
Create your ads account
Go to ads.openai.com → Create account → Continue with Google. Use one login for all your products.
Paste your website, get a ready ad
Ads Manager reads your site and writes the first ad for you: image, headline, description. Click Review details.
Set the campaign
Objective Clicks · Location India · Daily budget ₹750 · Bid Maximum results.
Pay, launch, verify
Add your card and GST number, hit Launch campaign. OpenAI holds a small amount on the card (₹1,450 for me). Then Start verification: business with GST, or Switch to individual.
Start verification the same day. It is the slow part. Your ad can serve meanwhile, but finish it to keep it serving.
↑ My real settings: Clicks, India, ₹750/day, Maximum results.
Wait for review, then watch the clicks
Once it says Serving, clicks come fast. My CallSimple ad, recorded live:
↑ 12,464 people reached, 238 clicks. “Conversions: Set up” = no tracking yet (page 4).
Rejected? Then track it.
“Ad has not passed policy”
I asked Claude (connected to my Chrome) “How do I fix this error?” It opened Ads Manager and found it: my image had the word ChatGPT in it.
The rule: no “ChatGPT” or OpenAI name or logo in your ad, and nothing that looks like an official ChatGPT message.
Don’t edit an ad that’s serving. OpenAI cleared my old ad while Claude was making a new image. Editing restarts the review. Add the new image as a second ad and compare.
Track sign-ups and sales before you spend more
My CallSimple ad got 238 clicks in minutes. Clicks mean nothing until you know who signed up and who paid. My prompt:
I need to track the sign-ups and sales coming from the [product] ad we are running on ChatGPT. My analytics isn't showing visitors from ChatGPT either. Can you help me with that?
data source + pixel in Ads Manager → Conversions sign-up event + purchase event UTM tags on the ad link conversion key stored as a secret
Without UTM tags, my analytics showed ChatGPT visitors as “Direct”.
6 things before your first ₹1,000.
Clicks are cheap. Sales are not.
₹1–₹6 a click is real. Getting those visitors to pay is the real work.
Know who sees it
ChatGPT Free and Go users in India, 18+. Not Plus or Pro. Pitch in plain words.
Free sign-up beats a sales page
My software (free sign-up) got 297 sign-ups. My course page sold 2. Ask for less first.
Tracking first, budget later
Set the sign-up and purchase events before you raise the budget, or you’re guessing.
Show the product being used
My best image was a chat bubble of the product doing the job. No logos, almost no text.
Early is the edge
Almost nobody advertises here yet. That’s why it’s cheap, and it won’t last.
