Your site gets visited by AI more than by humans.
Soon people will ask an AI agent for every recommendation. If the agent can’t read your site, or doesn’t name you, you won’t rank and you won’t convert. So I set up my Grok Bot to check for me. I named it SEOBuddy: an AI answer check-in.
What it does
- Goes to different AI engines, logged out
- Asks the questions my buyers ask, like “what is the best AI presentation generation tool?”, many of them
- Checks which tools get named and which pages are ranking for each question
- It even suggested writing a follow-up for me
2 / 6 Perplexity answers
2 / 6 Google AI Mode answers
The real check from 28 Oct 2026: 6 questions × 3 engines = 18 answers. Green = named in the top 3, amber = named lower, red dash = not named.
Ask the AI what your buyers ask it.
Write the 10–20 questions your buyers would ask AI
Mix three kinds: the broad “best X”, a specific job your product does, and “alternative to [competitor]”. These are the 6 I started with for MagicSlides:
best AI presentation maker broad best AI PPT maker free broad how to convert YouTube video to PPT use case ChatGPT to PowerPoint presentation use case SlidesGPT alternative alternative how to convert Napkin AI to PPT use case
Tip: pull use-case questions from your Google Search Console queries. Q6 came from a query getting 5.8k impressions.
Ask each one in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, every week
A new chat for every question, so earlier answers don’t leak in. Stay logged out (or use a private window) where you can: logged-in answers are personalised. One of my logged-in ChatGPT answers mentioned “your work with digital products and SaaS”.
Google AI Mode has a direct link: google.com/search?udm=50&q= your question
Log it. Are you named? Where? Who’s cited?
One row per engine × question. A Google Sheet is enough. Here are real rows from my 28 Oct check:
best AI presentation maker ChatGPT yes #5 Gamma
best AI presentation maker Perplexity no – Gamma
YouTube video to PPT ChatGPT yes #1 MagicSlides
YouTube video to PPT Google AI Mode yes #2 SlidesGPT
SlidesGPT alternative Perplexity yes #6 Gamma
Napkin AI to PPT all 3 no – Napkin AI itself
Also save every URL the answer cites. Those are the pages the engine trusts for that question.
Where you win
My only #1 was ChatGPT for “YouTube video to PPT”: a specific job with a page built for it.
Who wins the broad ones
Gamma was named first in 8 of the 9 “best”, “free” and “alternative” answers across the three engines.
Where nobody is named
For “Napkin AI to PPT” every engine only explained Napkin’s own export. An open gap.
Which pages get cited
Perplexity’s “best AI presentation maker” cited 14 URLs, mostly “best tools” list articles. Getting onto those lists is a job of its own.
Where you’re missing, fix that page.
Take every question where you’re not named. Open the page on your site that should answer it, and run it through the checklist. If an AI agent can’t read the page, it can’t recommend it.
- Labels on form fields, real alt text on images
- Key info (price, proof, specs) in the HTML, not loaded by a script
- The buyer’s question as the first H2, answered in ~50 words
- Reviews as plain text, with name + title
- “As of Oct 2026” next to prices and facts
- AI bots allowed in robots.txt
- No broken links
- Published + updated dates on the page

Then check again next week
Same questions, same engines. The point of the log is the trend: are you named in more answers than last week, and higher up?
Let an agent run the check for you.
Doing 18 searches by hand every week gets old. I hand it to an agent with a browser. This is the brief I gave Claude in Chrome for the 28 Oct check, shortened. Swap in your questions:
# read-only research. don't post, share, or change settings Ask each of these questions, in a NEW chat each time, in each of 3 engines: Q1 best AI presentation maker Q2 ...your questions... Engines: - Perplexity: perplexity.ai/search?q=<question> - ChatGPT: chatgpt.com, new chat, web search on - Google AI Mode: google.com/search?udm=50&q=<question> For EACH engine + question, save a file with: - the full answer text - every cited/source URL - is MagicSlides named? its position (1 = first tool) - every competitor named, in order If an engine is blocked, write down why and move on. At the end, write SUMMARY.md: a table of engine | question | named y/n | position | competitors | cited URLs
Run it on a bot
