Choices are only valuable when exercised. So if you are trying to optimize to always have more choices, that means you haven't chosen any. For example, if I'm someone who I don't want to settle down, I want to always have choices, then you haven't chosen someone. The value is not in the option to be able to choose. The value is in choosing.
