Lesson 1.1 — Editing one video should not take an evening

I want to start with the part nobody puts in a course, which is why this is hard in the first place. Because people do not give up on video editing since they are not creative enough. They give up for four extremely boring reasons. One. Scrubbing back and forth looking for the good bit. Two. Captions, typed out by hand and then dragged into time one line at a time. Three. Waiting for the export. And four, the one that actually kills people, being asked for one small change and having to do the last two steps all over again. And that is after the software has already fought you. A download, an account, a subscription, a timeline with two hundred buttons you will never touch, and a laptop that starts sounding like a hairdryer. Look at that list again. Not one of those things is the creative part. Not one of them is choosing what to say or which moment matters. It is all admin. And admin is exactly the thing a machine should be doing. So faced with that, people pick one of two options. Learn it properly, which means months and usually an institute. Or pay somebody else. The next two lessons are about what each of those actually costs you, because I have done both.
