Lesson 5.5 — The four tools that answer a panicking client

Quick summary first, then each one on its own. There are four tools here that will never appear on your portfolio and will keep more clients than your portfolio does. The compressor, the cutter, the background remover, and the GIF maker. Each one answers a message that arrives in a panic, and each takes about two minutes. One. The compressor. The message is, it will not upload. Their file is too big for WhatsApp, or email, or the platform limit. You shrink it without visibly wrecking it and send it back. Two. The cutter. Can you take the last bit off. You do not open a project for this. You open the cutter, trim, download, send. Three. The background remover. Usually somebody filmed in a messy room and wants themselves on a clean colour instead. Two minutes. Four. The GIF maker. Can we have it as a moving image for the newsletter, because video does not play in email. Three seconds, looping, done. And the rule for all four. Never invoice for a two minute fix. Do it fast, say it was nothing, and become the person they message first. I have never once regretted a free two minute favour, and I have lost work by being slow to one.…
