Editing software has hundreds of features. You will use six of them, nearly every day, for nearly every client. Here they are. Trim, to take time off either end. Split, to cut a clip in two where the playhead is. Reorder, to drag a piece somewhere else. Layer, to put something on top. Mute, to get audio out of the way. And export, in the right shape for wherever it is going. Trim, split, reorder, layer, mute, export. That is the job. And here is the permission slip. Ignore colour grading. Ignore motion graphics and keyframes. Ignore multicam. Ignore anything with the word node in it. None of those are in your first ten paid jobs, and every one of them is why people quit in month two of an institute course. That is module one.
