One more thing about that document, and it is the reason the deck came out in the right order. Go back to the document. Executive summary. Revenue by region. What drove the numbers. Risks. What we are asking for. Five headings. Those five became the spine of the deck, in that order, and the sub headings underneath turned into the slides in between. So if you want a better deck, fix the document first. Use real heading styles rather than just making text bold, because bold text is invisible to it and a heading is not. Keep one idea under each heading. And write your ask down explicitly, because if the last slide matters to you, it needs to exist in the document. And the habit this gives you is the point of the whole course. Write the document you were going to write anyway. Then let the deck be a five minute afterthought at the end of it. You stop building decks and you start editing them, and that is where the twenty hours go back in your pocket.…
